GPRS A Revolutionary Technology

GPRS is one of the most revolutionary technologies that has been developed in the last few years, and almost everyone has been using it to access the Internet on their cellphones. One of the biggest advantages of this technology is the fact that GPRS enables a very good and instant connectivity to the Internet and that too, at all times. The connection is continuous and a steady one to boot. People who are using the GPRS log onto the net by using an APN or the Access Point Name. There are many services that the GPRS can utilize and also a office network as well. There is no need for the dial up modem after that. The user is able to remain connected to the internet. GPRS is economically very viable as well because you only pay for the amount of data that has been actually transferred or shared. This means that the bandwidth which is available is very efficiently and economically used, as the resources as well as the bandwidth are only used when the data is being shared. This is the reason why a GPRS connection is more economic and cheaper than a circuit switched connection where the circuit or the connection which is created has to be kept active even when there is no communication occurring between the users or the end points. There is a need basis involved in the GPRS services.

There are various speeds at which GPRS services transfer data. The range can be between 14.4 kilobytes per second to around 115 kilobytes per second. There is a continuous connection whether it is for the computers or for the cellphones, depending on where the network is being used. Since GPRS offers such high rates of data transfer, therefore this means that users can use much more complex applications like video conferencing and use multimedia websites which are really rich in graphic content. Such websites are also being accessed on the cellphones.

GPRS is based on the GSM networks and thus it will act as a complementary feature to services like SMS and all that.

There are reasons why network operators should choose GPRS networks.

Firstly, there will be greater profit created especially with the development of the voice market and all the voice services that are offered.

Secondly, there will be a lot of customers out there who will need the mobile internet services, thus requiring Internet facilities through GPRS on their phones. Also for clients who do not want to buy a computer and yet require certain basic internet services.

The current subscribers will get newer and improved services and so, there will be a greater client satisfaction as well.

Now, the resources like bandwidth will be better used and so there will be less overhead costs. The existing customers will obviously want to stay on with their current network operators if they provide better and more enhanced services. Lastly, it will be easy adapting applications for mobile Internet users.
