Talking about Wi-Fi

In this article, we shall tell you all about Wi-Fi. Building a Wi-Fi network is the most cost-effective way to get a connection with the surroundings. Plus, you should be aware that the cost of a single wireless adapter is becoming cheaper day by day, so it is very reasonable to make a large network area with Wi-Fi. It’s not even necessary to arrange the wires around and profit by the installation time, because today, most of the Wi-Fi adapters have user-friendly configurations and diagnostic tools which are very easy to understand, therefore it’ll be simple to adjust or change the WLAN settings.

But one issue that constantly crops up when one talks of Wi-Fi is the security involved. Could our data be stolen? When we have a wireless connection, it is always necessary to protect our own private files and to encrypt the messages or emails that we are sending. The security modules have always been important, ever since the beginning of the Wi-Fi projection. Security techniques like Wi-Fi Protected Access (based on encryption), Virtual Private Network (making virtual tunnels), Media Access Control Filtering (rejecting unknown MAC addressed), RADIUS Authentication and Authorization (using login and password) or Kerberos (key distribution) were introduced to prevent interception of data by others. Today it is possible to make a combination of all these security mechanisms, for enhanced and more effective security.

But one needs to take into account the fact that such security cannot be provided in public places like Internet cafes. This is because when one connects to a protected wireless network; one will be asked for a security code, an encryption key or a password. If one does not have access to this information, a communication link will not be established, and thus Internet resources cannot be used. You should note that most of the public areas do not use security modules because that would make Wi-Fi users’ data unsafe.

Now we shall tell you about the business advantages of Wi-Fi. It is no secret that today, computer technology is the main driving force behind business, and it contributes to the Internet as well. So it is important to know about the business advantages of Wi-Fi. In a nutshell, Wi-Fi is a method that we use to access the Internet, or even a private network, from our computers, using radio waves and not a physical cable. Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity, and this is a term that was developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance, to describe wireless local area network products that are based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. All products that have the Wi-Fi logo are certified to standards that have been set by the Wi-Fi Alliance.

And now we shall discuss some terms related to Wi-Fi. For instance, an access point is a transmitting / receiving device that allows easy access to a wireless network – and an access point is also called a base station. Bluetooth is a special kind of Wi-Fi which has been specifically designed for distances under 30 feet.
