Tips to secure your wireless network

As you know, getting a wireless networking system done up for your home is rather exciting as it just makes connectivity so much simpler, especially if you have more than one computer or laptops at home. However, you must also know that having a wireless network and especially if it is not properly protected means that you are leaving your wireless network bare open to the abuse and exploitation by anybody who comes within the range of your network and that would only lead to unauthorized accessing which could harm you in more ways than one. However before you get over excited about setting up your wireless network at home, here are a few things you could do to maintain the security of your wireless network system at home.

What you could do is change the administrator passwords as well as user names. This means that the access point of the Wi Fi system network is set in default by the manufacturer that you can make more secure by just changing its logging in username and the password. If these settings are changed then it would make the job of a hacker more difficult. Another thing you can do is to turn on the option of using the turn on the common compatible encryption. This simply means that the messages that are sent over the wireless network to the devices are sent through the form of encrypted and scrambled messages so that only those devices that you authorize which will have the same encryption code would be able to access the wireless network that you have set up making the whole system much more secure.

Also, the manufacturers will ship in their devices with a typical default SSID which again you should change and make it your own and unique. This means that all the devices which are of the same company will have the same default SSID, which is the network name of the router. So if you change it and make it your own then this information will be known by you alone and would again make the job of a hacker much more difficult. Also, enable Mac access filtering. This will allow only those devices with that special Mac address to access the wireless network that you have set up.

However, you must remember that no security is completely fool proof and there is always the chance that your wireless network will be hacked. But these and other measures you can take to make the job more difficult and thus your chances of getting hacked lower.
